Comunidad de Colores
Cuidado de Salúd Para Todos
Healthcare for All
Mission
Our mission is to promote health equity in Northern New Mexico by improving quality and access to health services regardless of one’s insurance status or ability to pay.
Vision
We offer multidisciplinary team-based care to meet the medical and psychosocial needs of our patients. Our goal is to make healthcare sustainable and inclusive for both patients and staff. For patients, this means reducing financial and social barriers to care and increasing patient interface with providers. For staff, this means ensuring the support and time necessary to provide high-quality, comprehensive care. For all, we continually evaluate how to align our practice with principles of anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion. With a lateral organizational structure, we strive for staff as well as the Santa Fe community members to have a voice in clinic policies and practices.
About Us
We are a diverse group of four women passionate about the intersection of healthcare, equity, social justice, and anti-racism.
A Different Model of Care
We are starting this organization from the ground up. We are aware that this presents opportunities and challenges for learning and change along the way, and seek active participation from Board members to navigate this path. We are compelled to start something new, because we strongly believe that healthcare in New Mexico requires a different model than what currently exists. We outline these areas of difference below.
Health Delivery Model
In the United States, community health centers (CHCs), non-profit clinics, and federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) provide the bulk of healthcare for uninsured and publicly insured patients. These groups rely on federal subsidies to care for low-income patients who do not have insurance, or whose insurance has low reimbursement rates. However, the burden of regulation and administration often prevent them from achieving their intended purpose of high-quality care for vulnerable populations. Disconnected from those they employ and from those they serve, and bound by federal mandates that are often unrelated to actual patient care, leadership teams are frequently not equipped to meet the needs of their communities. As a new type of health care non-profit, we aim to remove these barriers. We can then structure and creatively adapt care based on close communication with our staff and patients.
Financial Model
With our combined experience building a Santa Fe-based nonprofit and developing relationships with community organizations, we plan to draw upon local foundations with shared values and grassroots fundraising for the bulk of our income. As we aim to provide care for substance use, mental health, Hepatitis C, affirming transgender, and HIV, we will seek grant funding for these areas of healthcare. We will provide free care for individuals who are not insured, and have developed a self-pay model with a sliding scale for future consideration. No one will be turned away for inability to pay, and clients will not be asked to provide any documentation to access care. Additionally, we will see patients with Medicaid, and have developed a plan to bill for these services in the future. We can provide our budget narrative for our first year for more details.
